Christoforos Sassaris has been selected to receive the 2022 Core Christian Larew Memorial Scholarship ($3,000) sponsored by Baker & Taylor.
This scholarship is for master’s level study, with an emphasis on library technology and/or automation, at a library school program accredited by the American Library Association. Criteria for the Scholarship includes previous academic excellence, evidence of leadership potential, and a commitment to a career in library automation and information technology.
The 2022 Core Christian Larew Memorial Scholarship Subcommittee took special note of Sassaris’s 4.0 GPA at the undergraduate and graduate levels, his undergraduate minor in computer science, the experience he gained performing volunteer work on digital projects, and his significant record of professional publications, invited talks, and honors and awards. In his statement, Sassaris said he plans to collaborate with peers and pursue leadership opportunities in student organizations such as an ALA Student Chapter to help prepare for future active roles in professional organizations, and he expressed a desire to leverage library automation and emerging technologies to make cultural heritage objects more accessible to researchers, students, and the public.
When notified, Sassaris replied, “I am both happy and grateful to be this year’s recipient of the Core Christian Larew Memorial Scholarship. This generous award is a rare opportunity to fund my education in library and information technology. The scholarship will prepare me to become a leader in the field by allowing me to pursue my passion in library automation, digital humanities, and special collections in Simmons University’s MLIS program.”
