Each month, we feature a Core member for an interview profile called #IAmCore. This month, meet Dave Corrington, the Public Safety Administrative Manager at Salt Lake City Public Library. Dave is a member of Core’s Leadership and Management Section and Buildings and Operations Section, and he currently serves as Chair of the Security in Libraries Committee.

What drew you to and continues to attract you to the Core Community?
The opportunity to network with other like-minded individuals working in library safety and security.
What are you working on now that you’re excited about?
As Chair of Core’s new Security in Libraries Committee, I am excited that we are creating a new committee focused on collaboration, sharing best practices, providing training and educational opportunities, and bringing new ideas to all libraries who are facing similar challenges in libraries across the country.
What are you currently reading/ listening to/ watching/ making?
I am currently reading “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants”. This book, authored by a Native American woman, explores how plants and animals are our oldest teachers.
What advice can you share to others for a fulfilling and beneficial Core experience?
Get involved in an area that you have the most interest in learning about and share your expertise.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I am looking forward to collaborating with everyone at Core Forum this November 14-16 in Minneapolis. I am excited to be presenting a session with our Social Service Coordinator on the topic, “Innovative Social Work and Public Safety Collaboration”.
