Library Leadership & Management (LL&M), one of ALA Core division’s three peer-reviewed, diamond open-access scholarly journals, is seeking an Editor. The LL&M Editor serves as a leader for the journal’s editorial board, overseeing the solicitation of submissions and managing the peer-review process from initial inquiry to publication decision. The Editor collaborates closely with the board to ensure high-quality published articles meet the scope of the journal. The Editor serves on Core’s Publications Coordination Committee to address policy, financial, and other issues shared by publications in the division. Additionally, the Editor shares duties for copyediting and layout of articles with an Assistant Editor as follows. This is the current iteration of duties and a new Editor may change processes and workflows depending on journal needs and preferences:
- Assistant Editor is in charge of all author communications and ensuring that articles are sent through the peer review process and/or conducts a desk edit if it’s not a peer-reviewed article
- Assistant Editor sends any questions or concerns to Editor for final decision
- Editor is responsible for copyediting and layout once articles have reached that part of the process
- Assistant Editor and Editor jointly collaborate in communicating with the editorial board and participating in meetings with the other two Core journals which include conversations around journal status and needs, coordination with Core Publications Committee and staff, as well as cyclical activities such as calls for reviewers and training, special issues, and related items
The LL&M Editor is appointed for a renewable three-year term (ending June 30, 2029). The position comes with a $1,750/year stipend, and registration fees for both the ALA Annual Conference and Core Forum are covered. The individual must be a member in good standing of ALA and its Core division during the entire period of service.
