Each month, we feature a Core member for an interview profile called #IAmCore. This month, meet Jeremy Myntti, who is a co-author of The High-Impact Digital Library: Innovative Approaches for Outreach and Instruction, published by ALA Editions/Core and Associate University Librarian for Metadata and IT, Brigham Young University.

2. Describe Core in three words

3. What do you value about Core?
One of the things I value most about Core is the people. Through Core, I’ve been able to build professional relationships, connect with colleagues who share similar interests, and learn from librarians with a wide range of experiences. Being involved with Core has helped me grow professionally while giving me a community where I can engage, contribute, and continue learning.
4. How long have you been a Core member?
I have been a Core member since it was created in 2020. I have been a member of ALA since 2006.
5. What drew you to and continues to attract you to the Core Community?
What draws me to the Core community is the sense of connection and collaboration. My work spans several areas of librarianship (leadership, technical services, and IT), and Core sits at the intersection of all of these. I have had many opportunities to participate and contribute to Core through publications, continuing education, and many committee assignments. The combination of community, collaboration, and professional growth keeps me engaged with Core.
6. What are you working on now that you’re excited about?
Right now, I’m excited about helping my library prepare for the future by building AI knowledge and confidence across our employees and to find ways to implement it responsibly and ethically. I’ve recently had the opportunity to facilitate AI workshops, form an AI Learning Task Force, hire an undergraduate student research assistant focused on AI, and help launch AI lunch-and-learn sessions and reading groups. It’s been rewarding to create spaces where colleagues can explore AI together, share ideas, and think critically about how these technologies can support our work and the services we provide.
7. What are you currently reading/listening to/watching/making?
The AI Toolkit for Librarians by Mike McQueen
A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher
8. What advice can you share with others for a fulfilling and beneficial Core experience?
My advice is to jump in and get involved. Volunteer for a committee, attend programs, introduce yourself to people, and don’t be afraid to speak up. One of the things I’ve learned is that everyone is still learning, no matter where they are in their career, and your perspective has value. Core is a welcoming community where you can contribute, make meaningful connections, and grow professionally. Everyone belongs, and the more you participate, the more you’ll get out of the experience.
